Antique Corbels, Gilded Wood Pair
A striking pair of antique carved giltwood architectural corbels, each measuring approximately 18 inches high by 10 inches wide by 8 inches deep. The substantial brackets feature deeply carved acanthus leaves, scrolling side profiles, and turned cylindrical details across the bottom. Late 19th century (1800's), English.
Dimensions: 18ʺW × 8ʺD × 10ʺH
Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. The gilt finish shows rubbing, surface scratches, scattered flaking, and areas of loss revealing the underlying red bole and natural wood. Most visible losses appear to be confined to the gilded and painted surface rather than the carved wood itself. There are a few small chips and minor irregularities consistent with age and prior installation, but the carved acanthus decoration remains largely intact and well defined. The backs show wear, old mounting marks, and attached metal hanging plates. Structurally substantial and presenting well overall.
